Election Supervisor

The Election Supervisor is responsible for several things on and during an election.  Our election supervisor for Acadia Parish is Brian Floyd.  He prepares all election data and ballot information and insures successful operation of all electronic equipment required to conduct elections.  He also designs special modifications and attachments for election equipment necessary to accommodate split voting districts and overlapping voting districts.

The duties also include the following:

bulletDesign and layout of ballots for efficient programming of election equipment.
bulletReceives data base information and installs on personal computer based election database system.
bulletDevelops program code to build voting script, tests and debugs program, and enters it into the election equipment for producing in parishwide and/or statewide elections.
bulletAssists the Election Manager in determining the number and placement of electronic election equipment within the District.
bulletAssigns electronic election equipment to polling places allocated in spreadsheet program and enters security data.
bulletOrganizes and conducts approved in-service training for new personnel.
bulletEnsures proper placement of personnel trained in electronic and/or mechanical diagnostics who diagnose, repair and report problems on election day.
bulletAssures compliance of laws as detailed in the Louisiana Election Code (title 18) related to elections and voting.
bulletConducts instructional schools for commissioners who serve at precincts on election day.
bulletDistributes components needed for inventory and replacement of defective components.
bulletPrepares a schedule for cyclic power management to maintain peak performance of internal power supplies.
bulletPrepares programmable memory devices with ballot definitions for installation into internal memory of electronic equipment using personal computer based election database system.
bulletAssigns additional electronic election equipment as needed for replacement of malfunctioning equipment on election day using election database system and ensures that the Clerk of Court's database is updated reflecting such changes.
bulletSupervises post election logic and accuracy tests.
bulletOrganizes and manages a safety program to ensure health and safety of employees and protection of property.
bulletDetects discrepancies in ballot design prepared by Secretary of State's office.
bulletDirects release of election equipment after elections.
bulletPrepares all reports, schedules, and necessary information as required.
bulletInspects printed ballots to detect discrepancies.
bulletCoordinates drayage schedule for delivery of election equipment from warehouse to election precincts and return.
bulletActs as an expert on election day to adjust and repair election equipment.
bulletInspects facilities; confers with owners and administrative personnel to resolve deficiencies; prepares purchase requisitions and makes needed purchases; makes budgetary recommendations.

Qualifications to be an Election Supervisor are as follows:

bulletFours years experience, two years of which must have been at the advanced journeyman level, in the maintenance, programming and repair of electronic and/or mechanical election equipment.
